The financial crisis may have left many Romanians working abroad with no jobs, future or prospects - but so far Italy has been an exception to this trend.
During the last year Italy managed to woo 41 per cent more Romanians than in 2008.
At the end of 2009 there were one million Romanians living in Italy, attracted by jobs especially in the construction, medical and care sectors, which have still not been significantly affected by the crisis.
