New Transport Minister sacks road boss for EU funds failure
Incoming Romanian Transport Minister Anca Boagiu has kicked off her tenure by sacking the general manager of the National Road and Motorway Company (CNADNR) for failing to absorb billions of Euro in EU infrastructure funds October 2010 - From the Print Edition
Democratic Liberal (PD-L) senator Boagiu replaced road boss Dorina Tiron with her ex-counsellor, CNADNR highway project coordinator Liviu Costache as interim boss.
The ministry said preliminary results of a recent report on CNADNR revealed management problems and issues regarding the company’s relations with road constructors and consultancy firms. The ministry will continue to investigate CNADNR’s activities.
Boagiu is a former Minister of European Integration for thr Democratic Party (PD) between 2005 and 2007 and was previously Transport Minister in 2000. Since 2008 she has served as a Senator for Bucharest and vice-president of the Senate.
Until the end of 2009, Romania had only built 321 kilometres of motorways. Earlier this year a plan to launch a 55 km mountain motorway between Comarnic and Brasov in a concession deal collapsed after the winning bidder, the Vinci-Aktor consortium, failed to attract enough financing.
