Wake-up call for coffee market
Romanians are cutting back on their coffee fix at home and on the town as wholesale prices for the beverage rise and consumer spending falls

Hundreds of tonnes of green coffee beans, stored in large sacks, are waiting to be roasted in a massive red building outside Bucharest.
Sourced from around the world, the beans are roasted for four minutes, washed, re-roasted for another four minutes, sent to a giant metal vat for up to six hours to eliminate the carbon dioxide, before going to straight to the packet – or suffering the grinder.
