Italians bake EUR 50 million investment in Cluj

Parma-based pastry company Battistero plans to put EUR 50 million into building its first panettone plant in Romania, in the Tetarom III industrial park, in Cluj county. The investment will cover production for CEE and Northern Europe, according to Cluj County Council. Officials said the plant's output in the first operational year will stand at between EUR 30 and 40 million, while by 2015 the value of production is expected to rise to EUR 100 million. Construction of the plant, which will create 500 new jobs, will start as soon as the company receives the building permits from the local authorities and the new factory will stretch over 28 hectares, while the first products are expected to be delivered by mid-2013. Battistero officials decided to expand their production to Cluj-Napoca because of the strategic geographic position of the city, which allows them to deliver their products to Eastern and Northern Europe. The existing infrastructure was another deciding factor in choosing the Tetarom III industrial park as a manufacturing location. Battistero was established in 1957 and has production units all over the world, including in Italy and Brazil.
