Romania’s dynamic car production and vehicle sales have crossed from the fast lane to the hard shoulder – what are the moves for rescuing these industries in crisis? Alexandra Pehlivan reports April 2009 - From the Print Edition
The international credit crunch has led to a slump in car sales in Romania and fears over the health of the domestic car and vehicle component manufacturing industries, which together generate 8.5 per cent of Romania’s gross domestic product.
Meanwhile at least 0.6 million people depend on the industry for their livelihood, which is dominated by French car-maker Dacia-Renault and will be boosted by the opening of a Ford factory in Craiova, Dolj county later this year.
