Average net salary up four percent in March

The net nominal average salary reached RON 1,617 in March, up from 4.1 percent on the previous month. The biggest earnings were recorded in the tobacco industry - RON 5,645 - while the lowest salaries were in the hospitality sector, where an employee received an average of RON 860, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), quoted by Mediafax. The biggest wage growth was seen in the manufacturing of tobacco products, up by 19.3 percent, while wages increased by between 10.5 and 18.5 percent in areas such as the manufacturing of nonmetallic mineral products, the manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, beverages, and the manufacturing of computer, electronic and optical products. A somewhat lower growth of between seven and 10.5 percent was posted in salaries in the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products, real estate, publishing activities, administrative service activities and support services and the manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products. The most significant wage decreases were posted in other extractive activities (down by 4.8 percent) and activities auxiliary to financial services, including insurance and pension funds (down 4.1 percent).
