Sova: Four motorway sections to be launched in December
Four motorway segments will be ready in December, according to Dan Sova, Minister Delegate for infrastructure projects of national interest and foreign investment 2013-11-24 15:54:16 - From the Print Edition
The announcement comes five months after the road linking Deva and Orastie in western Romania was opened. The four sections, totaling 120 kilometers, are also located in the western region and will link Lugoj to Deva, Nadlac to Arad and Orastie to Sibiu via two highway segments. Next year will bring several other sections, depending on auction procedures. By 2016, the ministry expects to see the 70 kilometers linking Sebes to Turda, part of European Corridor 4, launched.
Besides these motorways, other projects involve the A5 Ploiesti-Alba and Targu Mures-Ungheni routes, which are in the planning phase and have a preliminary delivery date around 2018-2020. There are also plans to build the southern section of the Bucharest motorway ring. Works on this section should begin by the end of 2013. Two other projects have recently been brought up, the Craiova-Pitesti and Sebes-Turda motorways, the first one having the same priority as the Comarnic-Brașov and Bucharest Southern motorway ring projects. This year, the contract with US engineering giant Bechtel for the 415 km-long Transylvania highway to connect the north-western region with Bucharest and Hungary was terminated.
