Star Transmission, owned by the German-based multinational automotive corporation Daimler, has opened a gearbox with double clutch assembly unit for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in Sebes, Alba County, according to Ziarul Financiar. The investment in the 13,000-sqm production hall, which opened in early January, was almost EUR 40 million. The construction was completed in ten months, and the unit includes modern assembly lines, office space, storage and logistics. "The expansion of the Star Transmission production capacity supports the overloaded production in Germany," company officials told ZF. "Mercedes-Benz vehicles, which operate with this gearbox model, enjoy great success." Star Transmission was established in 2001 and has over 1,000 employees at its production facilities in Cugir and Sebes, where it produces components for engines and gearboxes for Mercedes-Benz, both for current and older models, supporting the availability of spare parts.
