FDI rises by 8 percent in January y-o-y to 244 million Euro
Foreign direct investment (FDI) totaled 244 million Euro in the first month of the year, up 8 percent compared to January 2013, after reaching a four-year peak last year, namely 2.71 billion Euro, according to BNR data, quoted by Mediafax 2014-04-05 16:38:19 - From the Print Edition
Equity stakes consolidated with estimated net losses amounted to 119 million Euro, while intra-group loans accounted for 125 million Euro. Last year, FDI rose by 26.8 percent on the previous year, with November 2013 attracting the highest investment level of the year, namely 578 million Euro, up 85 percent on the previous month. The lowest investment levels were recorded in March (48 million Euro) and May (92 million euro).
2008 saw the highest value of FDI on the local market, namely 9.496 billion Euro. Between 2003 and 2006, Romania registered year-on-year FDI increases, totaling 5.183 billion Euro in 2004, 5.213 billion Euro in 2005 and 9.056 billion Euro in 2006. In 2007, the figure dropped back to 7.25 billion Euro, followed by the record growth of 2008. However, the indicator fell sharply from the next year, to 3.48 billion Euro in 2009 and 2.2 billion Euro in 2010. In 2012, net FDI increased for the first time since the beginning of the crisis, rising 18.7 percent to 2.138 billion Euro, on 2011.
