Agrifinance: finding soil-utions
Romanian agriculture must be financially supported in order to develop properly and to reclaim its status as the 'breadbasket of Europe'. The aim is high and the road is hard, but if all major players make common efforts, the dream could come true, say pundits. The Diplomat - Bucharest looks at the state of the local agricultural financing system and analyzes the potential solutions for its improvement.

The main funding sources for Romanian agriculture are supply credits from input firms, loans granted by banks or non-banking financial institutions, and subsidies provided by both the state and the European Union, through the Agriculture Payments and Intervention Agency (APIA) or the Payments Agency for Rural Development and Fisheries (APDRP)..
