Romanian agriculture has benefited from EUR 15 billion worth of European Union funds in ten years
Romanian agriculture has benefited from EUR 15 billion worth of European Union funds between 2003 and 2013, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Daniel Constantin told a TV news channel recently. 2014-04-29 12:33:56
"Since 2003 till 2013, and even in 2014 as much as EUR 15 billion have entered Romania from the pre-accession funds and other funds we have had access to. In 2003, when we had access to Sapard programme and hence the experience the agriculture ministry has gained in managing the European funds, a very small amount reached Romania, namely EUR 6 million and around EUR 232 million arrived in 2004. By 2013 we had EUR 2.7 billion," Constantin explained.
The minister stressed 2013 was the first year when the agri-foodstuffs commercial balance was positive and he underscored the importance of investing in agriculture, as being the sector with the most important financing sources from EU funds.
"For the first time in 20 years we have managed to have a positive balance regarding the agri-foodstuffs, we managed to ship more than we import. I would like to give the TV audience a piece of advice: invest in agriculture, it is the sector with the most important financing sources from European funds", he stated.
