Indian dance on Romanian stage

Three representatives of India's Odissi dance and three ballet dancers from Bucharest performed last night on the stage of the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest, combining dance and music in order to illustrate the beneficial effects of sound on the human being.

2014-06-06 14:49:03

The performance had five artistic moments that highlighted the creation of the universe from the primordial sound, followed by its division into two complementary energies, according to Iuliana Nalatan, the president of "Rabindranath Tagore" Cultural Centre.

"Moreover, the show stressed the way different Sanskrit sounds and words affect various dimensions of the human being, leading to a state of happiness and freedom from suffering," said Nalatan. "The show was seen also by the Indian public and was a huge success."

Among the artists include Reela Hota (photo), acknowledged for adding the spiritual dimension to Odissi dance, and Gigel Ungureanu, former first soloist of the National Opera in Bucharest. Dubbed "Sanskrit, the language of mantras", the show will be present also in Timisoara, on June 8, 2014.
