EU to grant an 11 million Euro financial support for the Moldavian Energy sector
In early September, the European Union (EU) announced that this year it will provide a financial support of 11.6 million Euro to reform the Moldavian energy sector, and next year another ten million Euro for the Ungheni- Chisinau pipeline, according to the Ministry of Economy quoted by Adevarul 2014-10-04 12:02:06 - From the Print Edition
The third payment of 11.6 million Euro is part of the Energy Budget Support Programme of the EU and is meant to modernize the energy sector in the country. Thus, through this program, the European Commission has allocated 42.6 million Euro to Moldova as a financial support for energy diversification, connection to the EU energy market and to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy. This program is part of the five EU budget support operations worth over 216 million Euro, being implemented in various sectors of the national economy. Also, the ten million Euro payment is granted in order to expand the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline to Chisinau in order to ensure an alternative gas supply for the capital of Moldova, the biggest gas consumer of the country. This additional payment will be made in 2015.
