Romanian Premier: Romania could reach a three per cent growth this year
2014-12-01 12:32:06 - From the Print Edition
In late November, Victor Ponta, Prime Minister of Romania announced that the country could reach this year a growth of 3 per cent, after the 3.5 per cent recorded last year. According to the National Statistics Institute (NSI), the economy grew by 1.9 per cent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter of this year, seasonally adjusted, and by 2.8 per cent in the first nine months, with 0.4 percentage points higher than the annual advance recorded in June this year. Therefore, Ponta added that the data which show an increase in industrial production, based mainly on manufacturing, reveal that this growth is a healthy one, not influenced by the real estate and financial speculation, but on production and exports. Moreover, the revised data published by NSI show that the Romanian economy has avoided entering into technical recession as GDP in the first quarter rose by 0.5 per cent compared with a decrease of 0.1 per cent since the last revision announced, while the decrease in Q2 was only of 0.3 per cent.
