Romania to export electricity of 250 million Euro in 2014
In early January, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) announced that Romania exported about 7.28 TWh of electricity, worth about 250 million Euro last year 2015-02-06 22:11:46 - From the Print Edition
The registered level is with 54 per cent higher than the total exported in 2013 and even exceeds the one recorded in 2008, when the local market exported seven TWh to its neighbours. According to Ziarul Financiar, although the amount of energy exported was higher, the value of the all exported energy reached nearly 250 million Euro, compared to 360 million Euro reached in 2008.
The most important export destinations for the energy produced in Romania were Bulgaria, where it went more than half of the total amount of energy exported – about 3.8 TWh in the first 11 months of 2014, and Serbia, who consumed 2.29 TWh of Romanian energy in the first ten months of 2014. Hungary is the third largest export destination for local energy of one TWh in the first ten months of last year.
Increasing energy exports has been closely linked to events in the region. For example, in the first half of last year, the energy produced in Romania balanced the deficit caused by damage to a coal power station in Bulgaria, while exports to Serbia reached a peak in mid May, when floods caused by heavy rains cut power to some communities and prompted the closure of some of the Serbian thermoelectric and hydroelectric stations.
