Eurobarometer: 42 percent of Romanians believe EU economic situation will improve in next year

An EU evaluation quoted by Agerpres is placing the Romanians among the Euro-optimists, as 42 per cent of them believe that the EU economic situation will improve in the next 12 months, according to data in the national report of the 2014 autumn edition of the Eurobarometer of public opinion that was commissioned by the European Commission and conducted from November 8 to 17, 2014.

Romanians are most concerned with the economic situation-29 per cent, then with increasing prices, inflation and unemployment-17 per cent, and pensions-7 per cent. Terrorism is of concern for 10 per cent of Romanians.

According to the data, Romanians appreciate the right to work in any EU member state-84 per cent, by 10 per cent above the European average, with only 6 per cent of Romanians considering this as a negative thing.

Regarding the attachment to EU, 58 per cent of Romanians say they are attached to the Union, a percentage placing them above the European average-45 per cent, along with countries such as France-51 per cent, Germany- 49 per cent and Poland-59 per cent.

The EU means for Romanians the freedom to travel-53 per cent, democracy-29 per cent and the euro currency-25 per cent. Some 53 per cent of Romanians are pleased with the way they exercise their democratic rights in the EU, compared to the national level, where only 25 per cent of Romanian respondents are satisfied with the functioning of democracy in their own country, up by 10 per cent compared to the similar period in 2013.

The degree of familiarity with European institutions reveals that 91 per cent of Romanians have heard about the European Parliament, 84 per cent of the European Commission and 80 per cent of the European Central Bank.
