ArcelorMittal has invested three million Euro to modernize steelworks
In early May, ArcelorMittal Galati announced that the company has invested three million Euro for the implementation of a steelworks modernization project aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of the plant 2015-06-08 21:30:34 - From the Print Edition
"A major aspect of our strategy is to increase energy efficiency, to improve competitiveness at local and regional levels," said Bruno Ribo, general manager of ArcelorMittal Galati, according to a press release issued to The Diplomat – Bucharest. "The investment will support both our strategies for reducing costs and improving quality sheet products in Galati. We continue to increase competitiveness, strengthen our position in the region and satisfy our customers," he added. The new cutting-edge vacuum pump, that serves the R.H. facility of the steel ladle, supports operational efficiency and ensures better treatment of liquid steel. Additionally, this investment brings predictability in the supply of steam.
Also, the company announced an investment of 4.75 million Euro into a new state-of–the-art de-mineralized water station, which has already started its production. The station uses the technology of "reverse osmosis" and consists of five operational units that ensure a volume of 550 cubic meters per hour of de-mineralized water, sufficient for current consumption. The de-mineralized water is an important technical fluid used for producing the steam for the turbo-blowers and for various processes at the converters and continuous casting (steel melting shop) and for the pickling line.
The investment is part of the project "Energize" of ArcelorMittal Europe, which aims to reduce energy consumption by 15 per cent over the next five years from the time of implementation. The action plan covers a range of areas, from equipment and energy - intensive processes to desktop activities, and involves the entire organization in all its areas, such as the operational, maintenance, investments and acquisitions levels.
