ANIS: Software and IT services companies report 2014 revenues of 2.42 billion Euro in Romania

Romania's software and IT services industry reported 2014 revenues of 2.42 billion Euro, up 13 per cent from the previous year, according to the findings of the "Software and IT Services in Romania,” report released by the ANIS Employers Association of the Software and Services Industry and quoted by Agerpres.

2015-06-11 07:00:52

On the other hand, based on the answers of the respondents, industry specialists are expecting a 14-per-cent rise in the business turnover of the industry in 2015, with the average annual growth rate for the next three years projected at 11 per cent.

The ANIS study also indicates that out of the total 2014 revenues of the software and IT services companies operating in Romania, nearly 65 per cent came from export, up from the previous year, when the export weight in the revenues of the same companies was 60 per cent.
"The software and services industry is one of the best performing Romania currently has, given the growth rate that is four times bigger than what is estimated for the entire economy. In 2014, the IT&C industry recorded the highest weight in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) so far-6 per cent, 2.5 per cent generated by software and services. The reason why ANIS has invested money into this study is to support Romania′s IT industry, help it grow. We wanted to draw up this material in order to offer some figures for any investor to use to start investing in Romania. We are at a time when the Romanian IT industry enjoys recognition," says ANIS Vice-Chairman Teodor Blidarus.

In his turn, PAC Romania & CEE Vice-Chairman Eugen Schwab, pointed out that Romania can become a regional engine for IT services and software products provided that its education system develops swiftly; tax incentives should also help generated added value, he said.

"The theoretical potential of the software and IT services industry exceeds 6 billion euros until 2020, but that level will not be reached chaotically, but only under a highly organised framework that encompasses the education system, curricula, tax incentives, righty used European funds and attracting massive investment. In 2014, somewhere in late autumn, when I was approached by ANIS to conduct the study, it was the first time in 16 years in business when an IT industry association seriously approached us to do something of reference in the area,′ said Schwab.

The ANIS study also reveals that as much as 32 per cent of the revenue derived by Romanian companies at home comes from projects conducted for the public administration, 16 per cent from industrial clients, 14 per cent from the banking and finance clients, 9 per cent from telecom companies and 8 per cent from utilities clients.

As far as exportation goes, export revenue comes from industrial clients (40 per cent), services providers (17 per cent), the finance and banking area (16 per cent), retail trading (11 per cent) and the insurance industry (5 per cent).

The "Software and IT Services in Romania′ study is an ANIS project conducted by the Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC), February-June, 2015, this year in its second edition. The first edition goes back to November 2013.

ANIS represents the interests of Romanian IT companies by supporting the development of the Romanian software and services industry. It was established in 1998 and it currently has more than 120 members, including companies running on Romanian or foreign capital, small companies and multinationals, with offices in all of Romania′s largest IT centres.
