Government postpones wage raises for the highest public positions
Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced the Government would postpone wage increases for the Romanian top officials, saying that he didn’t agree with the measure, but he was aware that the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis was in favour of it 2015-08-04 23:45:30 - From the Print Edition
According to the law regarding these wages, the President of Romania, the speakers of the Senate and the Deputies′ Chamber as well as the Prime Minister will be paid 21,540 RON in gross wages for a net 15,108 RON starting August 1, thus being paid as much as the president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, according to an Order on increasing the monthly pay for the highest public dignitary positions in Romania that the Government approved in July.
President Klaus Iohannis had appreciated beforehand the Government′s intention as ′′wise and aiming far′′; he also declared it could be seen as a measure to prevent corruption, according to news published by Agerpres agency. He also added that there are ministerial employees drawing higher pay than the ministers, and that as far as he is concerned the situation was not settled for purely populist reasons.
