Environment Minister: We will act against Volkswagen to pay the environmental tax differences
Romanian authorities will ask Volkswagen to pay the difference in the environmental tax which will result from the reclassification of the engines with emissions problems, so car buyers will not be affected from this point of view, according to Gratiela Gavrilescu, Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests 2015-10-18 19:06:41 - From the Print Edition

"No Romanian citizen will pay the environmental tax difference because it was not his fault," said Gavrilescu, according to Mediafax. "We will move upon the Volkswagen producer or legal representative in Romania. (...) Every car buyer had good faith. It is not normal for that person to pay for the new tax environment. Once we find out the pollution norm at which the vehicles were produced, we will calculate the difference for the environmental tax and will determine how we will act against the producer. The difference in environmental tax will be recovered only from the manufacturer and not from the population." In addition, the Minister of Transport, Iulian Matache, said that he expects updates from both the German Ministry of Transport and Volkswagen after the German manufacturer had installed special electronic systems on some diesel cars to avoid emission standards. He also added that, in Romania, ID cards were issued for 105,000 Volkswagen vehicles, of which 56,000 are new.
