Monteagro Invest: “This year, those who planted wheat will not earn a lot of money”
Currently, in Romania, there is an excess of water in the soil, flooding some of the farmland, so the productivity of the large crops, especially wheat and barley, will not be as great as expected in the market, according to Monteagro Invest, a company controlled by Spanish investors, quoted by Mediafax 2016-06-15 22:30:40 - From the Print Edition
"This year, for example, I think that everyone who planted wheat will not earn very much money," said the Monteagro Invest representative, quoted by the newswire. "I refer to those who cultivated wheat and barley, because prices will not cover expenses, especially as this year many treatments should be applied to prevent disease." Monteagro Invest, which deals with the cultivation of cereals on an agricultural area of 1,900 hectares in Dambovita county, ended 2015 with a turnover of around one million Euro, down 15 per cent compared to the previous year, according to the company.
"We ended 2015 with a turnover of one million Euro," said Manuel del Pino, agricultural consultant of the company. "During the last year's campaign, we ended on a loss, but this year we hope to see a recovery on prices and to be helped by the weather. Last year it was very difficult, not only for us, but for all farmers," he added. Monteagro Invest sells its grain on the local market. The company's main customers are Moara Baneasa, which produces bakery, and swine farms in the proximity of Dambovita county.
