EC appoints Ruxandra Draghia-Akli Deputy Director-General for Research and Innovation
The European Commission on Wednesday has appointed Ruxandra Draghia-Akli Deputy Director-General to its department for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), as of 1 September 2016, according to official release. 2016-07-27 19:28:55
Currently, Draghia is currently a Director in the Health Directorate of DG Research and Innovation within the Comission, where she is in charge of a team of some 150 people and a budget of 1.3 billion Euro annually.
Draghia-Akli is one of the four newly appointed Deputy Directors-General, alongside Charlina Vitcheva to the Joint Research Centre (DG JRC), Mario Campolargo to the Informatics Department (DG DIGIT) and Carlos Alegria to the Department for Interpretation (DG SCIC).
Ruxandra Draghia-Akli, a Romanian national, joined the European Commission in 2009 to work in its department for Research and Innovation. Prior to that, she spent nearly 20 years as a medical doctor and a researcher in Romania, France and the US. Her last position was a Vice-President of research of a biotechnology research company
