MADR Minister: “Romania supports the EU Council presidency's efforts in establishing new fishing quotas”

In early July, Achim Irimescu, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), had an informal meeting with Josef Kamenicky, state secretary within the Ministry of Agriculture of Slovakia, country which currently holds the EU Council presidency, according to a press release. During the talks, the officials discussed issues concerning the priorities of Slovakia's presidency on agriculture, during the mandate, including the organization of events and roundtables, as well as high-level meetings on areas of interest such as fishing, milk, plant protection and pesticides use. "It is very important to see how Slovakia will act during the period it holds the Council presidency of the European Union, because Romania will take the helm in 2019," said Irimescu, according to the same source. "Romania supports the [EU Council] presidency′s efforts in establishing new fishing quotas, the turbot quota being of interest to our country ," he added. The meeting was held in the line of the "International Forum of Food: We invest in the future of agriculture", which brought together representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture in several European countries - Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Italy, representatives of European institutions such as the European Commission and MEPs, Farm Europe members, agricultural organizations, agricultural cooperatives and financial institutions.
