ARIES: Romanian IT industry has doubled its revenue in six years, reaching a market worth about five billion Euro

ARIES Transilvania announces the results of an extensive national IT market study in Romania, carried out with the support of the City Hall and the Cluj-Napoca Local Council, and which analyzes the evolution of the field over six years between 2011 and 2016.

According to the study, the number of IT companies nationwide increased from 9,823 to 14,339 in 2011-2016, and it is forecast that by the end of 2017 the number of 17,000 will be exceeded. Practically, over the past 6 years, more than 50 per cent of companies have been established.

At the same time, the cumulative turnover of IT firms has doubled over the past six years, as the IT segment has a growing share in the national economy, exceeding, with the communications technologies field, six per cent of GDP.

The evolution of the IT industry at national level is significant: in the 14,339 companies registered in 2016, there were over 100,000 employees and their number increased by 75 per cent in the last 6 years.

Moreover, during the analyzed period, the number of startups doubled, indicating the emergence of young entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs, promoters of new ideas, new solutions and a new business attitude, thus completing the companies with experience that have increased at a sustained pace in recent years.
