Euler Hermes estimates the Romanian retail market is worth 40 billion Euro
Euler Hermes, part of Allianz Group, estimates the Romanian retail market is worth 40 billion Euro, a study shows. 2017-12-12 13:41:44
According to the study by Euler Hermes, the retail market in Romania had a 12 per cent increase in 2016. This was due to the increase in the gross minimum salary (currently 1,450 RON), the VAT reduction from 24% to 19% and higher employment by 0.16 per cent compared to 2015.
Increased consumption has boosted the dynamics of the commercial market. Thus, 230,000 square meters of new shopping areas were delivered in 2016, up 40 per cent from 2015. The trade sector also recorded a record number of 240 new stores, of which the most active players were Profi (134 stores), Mega Image (60), Lidl (11) and Kaufland (6).
The Romanian retail market is estimated at 40 billion Euro, with four big players, holding a 60 per cent share: Kaufland, Carrefour, Metro Cash & Carry and Auchan.
