OMV Petrom launches in Romania the first OMV Climate Neutral card to offset carbon emissions for fuels
The OMV Climate Neutral card can be used by companies for fuel purchases from OMV and Petrom stations .The amount required to offset carbon emissions during road transport is transferred to ClimatePartner to support certified carbon offset projects
OMV Petrom, the largest energy company in South-Eastern Europe, launches the OMV Climate Neutral card in Romania, with the help of which companies can actively contribute to climate action and to offset carbon emissions associated with fuel consumption.
This option, a first for the Romanian fuel market, is made available through ClimatePartner, an international provider of solutions for corporate climate action. In addition to preventing and reducing greenhouse gases, offsetting carbon emissions is another crucial step in protecting the environment smartly. The OMV Climate Neutral Card offers full carbon offset for all quantities purchased.
The OMV Climate Neutral Card guarantees its customers a fixed price for offsetting carbon emissions for a period of 12 months.
OMV Climate Neutral works like a normal fuel card, giving companies the opportunity to offset, at a fixed price, at a fixed price of 0.023 lei / liter for gasoline and 0.027 lei / liter for diesel, carbon emissions produced during transport to support carbon offset projects in the ClimatePartner portfolio.
Each user of an OMV Climate Neutral card will be able to check, at any time, the volume of carbon emissions that has been offset on the ClimatePartner partner portal. The card can be ordered online through our virtual store on the OMV Romania website.
Customers will receive a certificate confirming the contribution by offsetting the carbon emissions. This emissions compensation mechanism is based on the standards imposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
“By launching the OMV Climate Neutral Card, we offer our customers the opportunity to contribute directly to offsetting carbon emissions. It is an approach that complements our measures and objectives at company level. We constantly invest throughout the production chain to ensure the quality of our products and reduce the carbon footprint, starting with our production operations, continuing with those in the refinery and in those of distribution stations, such as electrical recharging points or photovoltaic panels “, declared Radu Căprău, member of the Management Board of OMV Petrom, responsible for the Downstream Oil activity.
Through sustained investments, OMV Petrom reduced the carbon emissions of its operations by 22% in 2019 compared to 2010. In addition, we are the first company in Romania to announce its support for the recommendations issued by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures ( TCFD) in order to increase transparency and enable stakeholders to better understand the company’s climate change efforts.
