Special Olympics Romania launches the Guide for hiring people with Down syndrome and the project platform “Employees, NOT assisted persons”
Special Olympics Romania (SOR) launches the Guide for hiring people with Down Syndrome and the dedicated platform https://angajare.specialolympics.ro , within the project “Employees, NOT assisted persons!”. The project aims to prepare people with Down Syndrome (DS) for employment, lasts 24 months (November 1, 2019 – October 31, 2021) and it is implemented in 12 cities in the country. The project is funded under the Shift + Lives program – www.shiftvieti.ro
The guide for hiring people with Down Syndrome is launched in printed version (also available here https://bit.ly/3o6EqtN ) and in the form of an online platform dedicated to hiring people with DS: https://angajare.specialolympics.ro/. In both versions, the Guide includes useful advice for candidates with Down Syndrome, guidance for their families and useful information for employers. The component dedicated to people with DS is adapted to their level of understanding (Easy Reading):
– within the project “Employees, NOT assisted persons!”, 120 people with Down Syndrome will learn how to look for a job, to communicate with potential employers, to attend the job interview, to integrate in the new job work and interact with colleagues and managers. This information and more is written in the Guide to Hiring People with Down Syndrome in easy-to-understand language.
– families of people with DS: The guide aims to answer many of their questions and guide them in the efforts of people with DS to find and keep a job.
– employers: the Romanian labor market is generally not very generous with people with S.D., many of the available jobs being complex and difficult to adapt to their skills. The guide for hiring people with Down Syndrome also supports employers, helping them to become aware of the job potential of this category and the possibility to hire them if the work environment is adapted to their specificity.
With the support of several associations in the country created by the families of people with DS, the project “Employees, DO NOT Assist!” will bring these three categories of people together in a National Forum and local seminars to be held in 2021. Local employers, specialists, families and people with Down Syndrome in the community will get to know each other better, receive information in the field and they will form correct expectations regarding the employment potential of people with DS. This will create visit / internship / internship / job opportunities for people with DS within companies.
Special Olympics Romania launches the Guide for hiring people with Down Syndrome in October, promoted by the global movement Special Olympics International as Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
