Transelectrica invests 76 million RON in the modernization of Arefu Power Station: Secretary General of the Government
The Romanian Government continues to invest in the development of the National Energy System. The Arefu Electric Transformation Station, in Argeș County, will be modernized and refurbished with 76 million RON, announced the Secretary General of the Government, Antonel Tanase.
The project is carried out by the National Electricity Transmission Company Transelectrica SA, a company in which the General Secretariat of the Government, on behalf of the Romanian state, manages the majority stake.
In the Arefu Electric Transformation Station, extensive refurbishment works are being initiated during this period, worth about 76 million RON, both for the implementation of current equipment and technologies and for alignment with modern operating concepts on all existing levels within the station, as well as for the extension of the station with a new voltage level, respectively that of 400 kV.
Antonel Tanase, Secretary General of the Government, stated: “The electricity transmission network is an important national infrastructure circuit that must operate permanently. Therefore, a level of investment flexibility is needed to ensure that the network is maintained in optimal business parameters. I am glad that Transelectrica responsibly assumes the role of strategic company at national and regional level and invests in strengthening the network. The General Secretariat of the Government, as administrator – on behalf of the Romanian state – of the majority stake in Transelectrica, carefully monitors the implementation of investment projects for the consolidation and modernization of the entire internal electricity transmission network. The operational safety of the National Energy System is a governmental priority, and Transelectrica has always confirmed that it is a key factor working to maintain the guarantee of this aspect. The modernization of the Arefu station is an objective that will contribute to the strengthening of the electricity transmission network and proves the seriousness of the Company’s investment strategy.”
Catalin Nitu, President of the CNTEE Transelectrica SA Management Board, explained: “After completing the modernization process, Arefu Station will have all the necessary elements to implement the Smart Grid concept, in accordance with the latest European standards, and will be brought to the level of state-of-the-art technology. All the more so as the Arefu power station ensures the evacuation in the system of the energy produced by the Vidraru power plant. The materialization of Transelectrica’s investment plan, through projects of the size of the one started in Arefu Station, will ensure the optimal operating standards of SEN, the electricity transport being carried out at an appropriate quality level and in accordance with the specific norms.”
