Silvia Vlasceanu, ACUE: “We have 40-year-old electricity networks that need repairs and modernizations”

“It is obvious that we need investments in the modernization of electricity distribution and transmission networks. We have 40-year-old electricity networks that need repairs and modernizations. Distribution operators are concerned about this issue and are involved in modernizing these networks,” Silvia Vlasceanu, General Secretary, ACUE (Federation of Associations of Energy Utility Companies) said during Digital Transformation in Energy & Utilities, organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We have learned a lot from this pandemic, and operators understand that digitalization is important. Digitization is necessary and useful, but there must be a balance between investment in networks and substations and investment in equipment and software related to digitization. Digitization doesn’t just mean we can work from home. For the energy sector, digitalization means the possibility to limit an incident in the network completely remote. New technologies will help companies provide the best services for consumers.
I think that in a short time we will witness transformations and solutions that the market will propose and that we have not thought about until now.”
