MET Group appoints Christian Hürlimann as Renewables CEO
Swiss-based European energy company MET Group announces the appointment of a new Renewables Chief Executive Officer effective as of 1 May 2021. Christian Hürlimann will support MET’s renewables expansion strategy.
Christian Hürlimann joins MET Group starting on 1 May 2021. Hürlimann will be responsible for leading the expansion, integration and management of MET’s renewable energy portfolio.
MET considers the growth of renewable power generation as a key part of its business strategy going forward, supporting the transition to green energy in Europe. MET Group CEO, Benjamin Lakatos said: “We aim to become a significant market player in renewables primarily in Central and Eastern Europe, increasing our renewable portfolio to 500+ megawatts by 2023. The onboarding of Christian Hürlimann will support us in strengthening our renewables operations and driving our ambitious growth plans.”
Hürlimann joins MET from Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ) Renewables where he played a significant role in setting up the renewables arm of EKZ, one of the biggest energy suppliers in Switzerland. He served as Managing Director for EKZ Renewables for several years and was responsible for development, acquisitions, as well as operations of wind farms and solar power plants in several European countries.
As part of its renewables expansion strategy, MET Group has recently acquired a 42 MW wind park from Enel in Bulgaria, and it has been progressing with the joint venture established with NIS to build a 102 MW wind farm in Serbia. The integrated energy company has several operating and ready-to-build greenfield solar power plants in Hungary, with a total installed capacity of close to 250 MW once all of them become operational.
