Am I penalized if I do not enter the competitive energy market? Do I also change the meter with the electricity contract? Answers to the most common questions about liberalization
Those who have not yet chosen an offer on the competitive electricity market can do so at any time, throughout the year. The contracts for the supply of electricity at the price for the universal service remain in force until the date on which you opt for other offers, at competitive prices, without any penalties for their choice after June 30, 2021.
From the middle of the year, however, there will be changes related to electricity bills for universal service. The commercial discount currently applied by suppliers to the universal service price is valid until 30 June 2021. If you do not opt for a contract on the competitive market by then, this commercial discount will no longer apply to consumption made from 1 July 2021. You will pay the price for the universal service communicated by the current provider in May and June of this year, together with the electricity bill.
What alternatives do I have?
If you have an ongoing contract for the universal service price, you can choose one of the following four options:
1. Accept an offer from the competitive market, from the current supplier, either through the offer selection form sent together with the invoice until 30.06.2021, or by signing a new contract for any offer in its portfolio.
2. Conclude a contract on the competitive market, with another supplier, licensed by ANRE.
3. Keep the universal service contract concluded with the current electricity supplier, at the price of the universal service offer valid for a period of application communicated by it.
4. Opt for another universal service provider of last resort
To find the one that suits you best, Enel Energie and Enel Energie Muntenia come with a series of products for customers from all over the country. For example, by choosing the offers in the Health category, available until June 30, 2021, customers who sign their first contract on the competitive market or conclude for the first time a contract with Enel suppliers secure a fixed price for electricity for 12 months, thus being protected from any possible increase in the price of electricity on the market.
You can change your supply contract or electricity supplier at any time, free of charge
Even if you have not made a decision until June 30, 2021, you can later choose, at any time, a product on the competitive market or another supplier. The process does not involve any costs or risks related to the power supply. For example, you do not need a new meter if you are entering the competitive market. This change does not change the distribution of electricity, and the measurement of the electricity you consume will be done in the same way. In addition, the distribution operator will continue to carry out the necessary interventions and checks without any changes.
Therefore, the electricity distribution network to which you are connected remains the same, as does the electricity distributor. You can use it with confidence every time you want to report various situations related to the distribution network, such as power outages. Also, the energy supply of the house will be ensured regardless of whether you remain a universal service customer if you opt for a contract at a competitive market price or for another electricity supplier.
We changed the electricity supplier when we switched to the competitive market. Will I still receive invoices from the old supplier?
Yes! The old supplier will send you, within a maximum of 42 calendar days from the termination of the contract, the invoice with the final statement and, in certain cases, until September 1 of the following year, the regularization of the value of green certificates invoiced in the last contract year. If you still have to pay an amount, you will be able to do so by the usual due date on the invoice. If the old supplier owes you a sum of money, he has a legal obligation to return it to you, by money order or in a bank account.
After the date of termination of the contract with the old supplier, you will receive the invoices issued by the new supplier, which you will pay at the due dates of the new contract.
