Conclusions of “The Black Sea in the New Economy” event: Romania has the largest reserves of natural gas in Central and Eastern Europe, ranks third in the EU
The natural gas deposits in the Black Sea can be a strategic resource, and their superior capitalization can effectively contribute to the reconstruction of the Romanian economy post-pandemic and to directing the national economy towards a long-term upward trend.
The new European context created by the Green Deal underscores the opportunity to start exploiting the Black Sea gas – a historic opportunity, but under the pressure of strategic decisions against the clock. Moreover, by taking advantage of the potential of the Black Sea subsoil and deep-sea onshore resources, Romania can reach a sufficiently high level of domestic production to become a provider of energy security in the region. A reality that even the members of the Executive recognize.
