Mastercard is the partner of the Romanian Development Authority (ADR) for the development of the mobile application ghișeul.ro
This week, Mastercard and the Romanian Digitalization Authority (ADR) started the process for the development of the Ghișeul.ro mobile application, the latest generation digital tool and the next step for the digitalization of the payment sector in Romania.
Funded by Mastercard and developed with Tremend Software Consulting, the application will integrate all current standards and compliance regulations, and will be made available free of charge to ADR, for later use on a large scale throughout the country. The Ghișeul.ro mobile application is addressed to all Romanian citizens, individuals or legal entities, representing the safest, most modern, fastest and most accessible solution for paying taxes to the Romanian state.
Over 1 million users registered on ghișeul.ro platform in 2021
Ghișeul.ro platform has become an essential project for Romania’s digital development. According to a report by the Romanian Digitalization Authority, between January and July 2021, more than 1.7 million transactions were registered on the Ghiseul.ro platform, all with zero commission for taxpayers, and the payments made through Ghișeul.ro totaled over 760 millions of lei.
The initiative to develop this tool comes in response to the spectacular evolution of payment volumes recorded on the platform: the number of transactions increased by 230% in 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, while the amount paid increased by 250% compared to the first half of last year. The application will make available to users all the functionalities of the Ghișeul.ro web platform, which will have the possibility to pay over 300 taxes and public services, at any time and from anywhere.
The mobile application will integrate the latest standards of compliance, technologies and options, from biometric registration and authentication to the possibility of enrolling cards, transaction history, activation of useful notifications, information filtering options and the current situation of debts and payments, in terms of taxes, services or fines.
“Starting last year, together with the ADR team, we managed to introduce in the system new functionalities that generated benefits for users, making the payment of taxes and services easier, safer and faster. Next, our goal is to deliver an application as easy to use as social networking applications, already used by millions of Romanians. The development of this mobile application reflects our concern for the diversification of digital services and the constant desire to bring the platforms managed by the Romanian state closer to the needs of citizens, through the use of innovative technologies. Together, we take the state out of the state in line and digitize Romania “, said Octavian Oprea, President of the Romanian Digitalization Authority.
“With the development of the Ghiseul.ro mobile application, we are taking another step towards the digitalization of Romania, by developing this platform, in which we are involved since the idea stage, over 10 years ago, as well as along the way, with the its development. We are happy to support this approach and to welcome users, who will now be able to check or pay their fees and taxes on their mobile phone, in complete safety, anytime and from anywhere. At the same time, through this project we strengthen Mastercard’s commitment as a public sector partner, with the aim of contributing to increasing the degree of inclusion and financial education in Romania, the advance of electronic payments and the adoption of new technologies “, said Cosmin Vladimirescu, Country Manager Mastercard Romania and Croatia .
The Ghișeul.ro mobile application will be available both in Google Play and in the App Store, and can be downloaded and used for free by all users.
