Dan Zaharia, Extind: “We need to find solutions to attract investments and create jobs for blue-collar workers in Iasi”
“Western Moldova is an area without major logistical developments, but let’s not forget Kaufland, with 90,000 square meters of warehouses on an area of 400,000 square meters. Basically, this doubles the stock of logistics spaces in the region. Almost 900 kilometers of highway are planned to be built in the region of Moldova, and the future A7, A8 and A13 highways lead to very interesting developments beyond the Prut. The visit of President Maia Sandu to Kiev meant a promise regarding a highway project between Kiev and Chisinau, so that Iasi will become an exit from the European Union to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine,” Dan Zaharia, Senior Consultant, Extind said during Real Estate Forum 2021 organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We notice some interesting movements on this market. One of them is the one made by Kaufland that I already mentioned. The Letcani area will probably become the second largest logistics development in Iasi County after the one in Miroslava, where Kaufland will also be present. The industrial area of the city has disappeared and is to be replaced by hundreds of thousands of square meters of offices and residential.
What is left of this decade will mean a development of Western Moldova because there are still people here. It is estimated that Iasi will remain among the few regions with a positive demographic in the next 30 years.
We see Iasi as a target for factories that are in the trend of electric cars. The Delphi plant was bought by the BorgWarner group, which specializes in electric vehicles. The Menekes factory is already open in Miroslava 2 park and there are many more automotive companies that have thousands of employees in offices, but which do not yet have a presence in the field of production in the Iasi region.
We are optimistic about the development of this city, and we hope that the local authorities will support the development of as many industrial parks as possible so that this area becomes a pole of industrial and logistical spaces.
We need to find solutions to attract investment in factories and create jobs for blue-collar workers.
At this moment, the most interesting areas in Western Moldova are Roman-Bacau, Pascani, Siret-Suceava and Galati-Braila.”
