Teodora Todoran, Wipro: “We have improved our trainings participation across Europe”
“What is happening these days and we are all experiencing is that a lot of training is online, and it is delivered by trainers via Zoom, Teams and other platforms. It’s working and we never thought it’s going to work. We are reaching people outside our offices in Bucharest and Timisoara, all across Europe. We have increased participation up to 87 percent throughout Europe and we have launched global programs. For us it was a positive change. We have really good results. The next step is not just getting people into online but knowing they will get the benefit of learning something, and for that we have changed a lot of our practices,” Teodora Todoran, Training Lead Europe, Wipro Limited said during “Belonging at Work Conference” powered by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“The number one thing is the breakout rooms, putting people into smaller groups, talking face to face. I think it’s working and we are really happy with what we are seeing.
Soft skills are something important for us as employers rather than what the customers sees on the other side. In terms of interaction where maybe we can look at soft skills elements, that has increased and people and colleagues and team leaders that were typically in the second, third row of preparing a presentation for the customer now they get to speak to the customer. I think that is where we need to be sensitive and how can we grow that presentation skills, interacting, diplomacy, how do we build that up. That common sense into practice is something that is still challenging. We all know how to communicate, but does the message really gets on the other side just as I intended? That is the element of challenge not just towards the customer but also within the teams.
How to keep ourselves relevant is to make sure that whatever we have in the offerings is relevant for employees needs and immediately. Patience is no longer there. So, if there is no patience, I need to figure out how do I make sure the needs are immediately addressed.
The hybrid working model is still under debate. It’s not so much about what can be offered, but I think it’s a two-way street. One is to respond to the need of the employees and the other one is to have a self-check and ask what I really want as an employee. Perceptions are changing but, you can see that employees are reluctant to coming back in the office.”
