Zoltan Nagy, ANRE: “We need to reduce our dependence on energy imports from Russia“
“Europe’s dependence on energy imports is a vulnerability, and the war in Ukraine has shown us that we need to do something to stop being dependent on Russian gas,“ Zoltan Nagy, Vice President of ANRE said during „Energy, present and future“ conference organized by AFEER.
“It is important to reduce this dependence because we do not know how the geopolitical situation will evolve in the coming decades.
There is only one option for Europe, namely renewable energy sources. There are technical solutions in this regard. It is true that investments are very expensive, but today we see that new technologies can compete with conventional technologies.
The government will make a decision this week. We need to quickly find some medium and long-term solutions to solve Romania’s problem of dependence on gas and electricity imports.
I am convinced that this energy crisis will increase the concern and investment in energy efficiency. The high price will make consumers think of energy efficiency measures, but there must also come from the state institutions a concern and an effort to inform and increase awareness of the importance of this measure, at the level of all consumers, from domestic to the largest non-domestic consumer.
We can’t even imagine how much waste there is right now. I have been criticized for claiming that energy was too cheap to be of concern to certain categories of consumers for efficiency measures. Here we are at a time when the price increases 2-3 times in less than a year and it is possible that energy efficiency will take on a completely different dimension.”
