Valeriu Binig, Enel: “Companies should develop data analytics solutions to cope with this data tsunami”
“At the core of the energy transition are decarbonization, decentralization and digitization. Later, other terms appeared, such as electrification, urbanization, disruptive behaviour, democratization of energy, diversification. But the first three Ds are invariable. Companies change not only through digitalization, but also through changes in mentality, organizational culture, by adapting to customer needs.
Digital transformation is beyond digitalization, even if today the two notions begin to be confused in the latest specialized works. Digitization is beginning to include a change in culture, mentality, etc., not just IT support for processes. The digital transformation of a society means the transformation of processes, the transformation of systems and the transformation of people,” Valeriu Binig, Director, Regulatory and Antitrust, Enel said during Digital Transformation Conference – Energy & Utilities organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“The only chance for companies to cope with this data tsunami is the development of data analytics solutions, which practically turn big data into smart data. Big data means raw data, while smart data means support for decisions. It is essential for a company to control its data, which represents the assets of that company.
The workforce in the energy sector is aging and one of the challenges is how we take over the know-how of these experts in new systems, data analytics. Data is an asset of companies, but the quality of that data is very important. Utility companies in Romania have realized that collecting all available data is equivalent to heating the oceans. So they decided to identify data cleansing initiatives and dedicated teams for data cleaning projects. Data quality is essential and there are consultants who assist companies in defining and implementing the concept of data management, which is a crucial condition for the process of digitization and digital transformation of utility companies.”
