Saint-Gobain Romania wants to accelerate the recycling of glass waste
In 2021, at the Saint-Gobain glass factory in Calarasi, an installation for treating and sorting the collected glass shards was put into operation, to recycle and use them in the production flow. By the end of this year, approximately 8,000 tons of CO2 emissions will be avoided, the equivalent of 28 million kilometers traveled by plane. The project, which costs about 1.5 million euros, was coordinated by the local team.
Saint-Gobain aims to substantially intensify its glass waste recycling activity in the coming years – 4 times by 2030, being an active promoter and a leader in the transition to the circular economy.
Aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 by 33 percent compared to 2017, Saint-Gobain thus reaffirms its ambition to minimize the impact of its activities on the environment and to be recognized as a responsible company, engaged in the circular economy, in especially regarding the sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity.
“In everything we do, we are guided by our goal -” Making the World a Better Home. ” Regardless of our activities in the construction markets, we translate our goal into a strategic commitment and concrete actions. Saint-Gobain has many initiatives underway to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, making it a priority for us to take care of the planet’s resources and contribute to building a more sustainable world. The project from the factory in Calarasi for sorting the shards and, consequently, their recycling in the process, as well as the other projects in which we invested responsibility for the environment, represent concrete actions that we undertake, in line with our strategic plan “Grow & Impact”. We are committed to future generations and to the planet, social responsibility being a key element in our strategy,” said Ovidiu Pascutiu, CEO of Saint-Gobain Romania.
