OMV Petrom to invest 130 million Euro for new aromatic products unit at Petrobrazi refinery
OMV Petrom is investing in the next 3 years about 130 million Euro at the Petrobrazi refinery for the construction of a new unit of aromatic products. It will operate at modern BAT (Best Available Technology) operating standards with low environmental impact. The processing capacity of the new unit is about 1,500 tons/day of reformed gasoline.
Radu Caprau, member of the OMV Petrom board responsible for refining and marketing activity: “The demand for gasoline continues to be robust in the South-Eastern Europe area. In parallel with the development of our offer of alternative mobility products, we want to provide our customers with the products they need, at high environmental standards. Other significant investments at Petrobrazi are to follow, both for the technological efficiency of the refinery and for the production of second generation bio-fuels.”
The process of replacing the current unit of aromatic products will be carried out between 2023 and 2025. The unit of aromatic products currently operating at the Petrobrazi refinery was put into production in 1961.
The new unit of aromatic products will be put into operation in 2026. This will ensure continuity in the production of petrol with a volumetric benzene content of less than 1%, according to current European standards.
Petrobrazi refinery has a total crude oil processing capacity of 4.5 million tons per year. Since 2005, OMV Petrom has invested more than 1.8 billion euros in the refinery, a third of this investment contributing to the reduction of the impact on the environment.
