STADA Romania starts construction works of the medicine factory in Turda, an investment of over 50 million Euro
STADA Romania, the Romanian subsidiary of the STADA Arzneimittel AG group, is starting the construction works of the first drug factory built by an international company in the last 30 years in Romania. With an investment of over 50 million Euro, this new production facility is in the Aries Industrial Park in Turda, Cluj County. The greenfield project is partially supported in its implementation by the Romanian Government, through a state aid contribution.
The new production and packaging unit will initially include 9 state-of-the-art technological lines for solid dose products (capsules and tablets), with a capacity of 120 million boxes of pharmaceutical product per year. The total area of the unit is approximately 30,000 square meters and allows a rapid expansion of up to 12 production lines.
The entire area of the purchased land is 100,000 square meters and allows for a further development of the production facilities, through the construction of new buildings, depending on market demand and related to the company’s continuous development needs.
The finished products from the unit in Turda – both prescription drugs and non-prescription pharmaceutical products – are intended to mainly serve Romania and the European markets, where the STADA group operates.
“STADA is developing in Turda the first drug factory built from scratch in Romania by an international company, thus laying a cornerstone in the transformation of today’s Romania into an important player in the European pharmaceutical sector, at the same time securing the supply chain in this strategic area. I chose Turda because it is a town located in the heart of a key region for the STADA Group. It is close to our warehouse in Timisoara, close to the production units in Serbia, as well as our testing laboratory that serves the entire STADA group globally,” said Mihai Fugarevici, the general director of STADA Romania.
