Gabriela Mihoci, MET Group: “Being a leader means creating the necessary time to truly listen to your employees”
“Leaders have the bigger picture, they need to give us direction, and they need to give direction for the business itself. But the business cannot reach the results without the people.
From time to time, we need to remind all the leaders that they should be empathetic and understand their colleagues and their teams. Leaders also need guidance and direction not only towards the business but also towards the people.
Being transparent to your team is very important for the success of the team and the success of the business. Technology and digitalization help us connect more with our people. How? It saves us time in order to go and talk to our people. Being a leader is not simple and you need to have a particular set of skills. You can have it by nature, or you can grow it but you also need to give time to get to know your people,” Gabriela Mihoci, Group Learning & Development and Employer Branding Specialist, MET Group said during Belonging at work HR conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“Being a leader means creating the necessary time to truly listen to your employees. Five minutes of active listening means much more than three hours of career discussion meeting or objective setting meeting.
If I have a direction from my manager, I can ask why should we go there, why do we need to be there. If my manager doesn’t tell me because he is not set like this, I can help him because the HR helps the business and the business helps HR. It’s a two-way communication. The leaders are guiding us but our teams also guide the leaders on how they should treat us and the employees. If we want to be a company in this reality, we should share the responsibility of our work. I’m not working for myself; I’m working towards a team’s objectives. We are working all together, so I’m not working alone. Being a part of the community, I should play my role, I should do my part, I should take care of my responsibilities.”
