Kaufland Romania recorded a turnover of 3.4 billion euros in fiscal year 2022
Kaufland maintains its position in the top of the largest companies in Romania, by turnover, and continues to be one of the most important private employers, according to the company’s socio-economic impact study for the financial year 2022.
The company recorded an increase in turnover up to 3.4 billion euros (March 2022 – February 2023). In the financial year 2022, Kaufland had a total contribution of 2.38 billion euros (Gross Added Value) to the local economy, which represents approximately 1% of Romania’s GDP.
Kaufland is one of the largest private employers in Romania, with over 16,500 employees. Through its activity, the company generates about 91,000 full-time jobs in Romania, directly, indirectly and induced, equivalent to about 1.7% of the national workforce. The impact study shows that each Kaufland direct employee in Romania supports the employment of more than 5 people in the entire Romanian economy, by creating new jobs.
Last year, Kaufland invested 315 million euros in Romania for the purchase or modernization of fixed assets, and had a contribution to the state budget of over 214 million euros, through taxes and duties.
“We live in a society, not just an economy. To overcome moments of instability, to grow sustainably and responsibly, we need collaboration. Kaufland remains a reliable partner for local producers, for the community, and for the country’s economy. This annual evaluation exercise helps us measure the impact of the company’s investments and direct them as efficiently as possible for Romania”, said Marco Hößl, General Manager of Kaufland Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
9 million euros invested in projects for the community
Last year, Kaufland was involved in the development and implementation of social responsibility projects worth 9 million euros, including two financing programs through which Kaufland offers non-refundable grants to non-governmental organizations. The company is among the biggest supporters of NGOs fighting for causes such as health, environmental protection, education, healthy living and sports or culture.
