TOMRA opens new logistics center of 4,000 sqm in Bucharest
With just five months until the launch of the new deposit-return system in Romania, TOMRA, the leading global supplier of automated collection systems, has opened a new 4,000 square meter logistics center near Bucharest.
The company’s first national logistics center will mainly ensure the operation and maintenance of the equipment that automates the post-consumer takeover of beverage packaging for recycling, serving the entire network of TOMRA collection systems in Romania.
The 4,000 square meter logistics center was built to the highest safety standards and includes a platform for loading and unloading up to 50 trucks per day. From here, both TOMRA collection systems and spare parts for their maintenance are delivered to DRS return points across the country, ensuring low costs and optimal turnaround times for traders.
TOMRA opened a branch in Romania in 2021 and quickly developed a national service and maintenance network, with technicians and fleets in every county, ready to support the traders who will operate the return points.
Preparations for the Deposit-Return System in Romania are intensifying for all system participants as the November launch date approaches. The DRS administrator, ReturRO, announced in June that more than 60,000 companies have already registered on the system’s online platform.
“A project of the scope of DRS in Romania needs not only a well-thought-out legislation, but also the involvement and support of all institutions, of RetuRO – the DRS administrator, of small and large traders, of producers, as well as of consumers. From TOMRA’s global experience, we know that a high-performing DRS also needs a solid logistics backbone, capable of responding promptly to the field needs of all those involved in the system, and ensuring the functionality and availability of automatic collection systems. That is why TOMRA Collection Romania has already opened its first logistics support and maintenance center at national level, which serves the entire network of systems, through an intervention team made up of highly qualified technicians with over 10 years of experience in maintenance RVS and a fleet of interventions with national coverage”, says Dorin Mihai, Director of TOMRA Collection Romania.
