Freshful by eMAG: sales of 700 tons of fruit and vegetables this year, three times higher than in 2022
In the first six months of this year, Romanians’ interest in fresh fruits and vegetables was increasing compared to the previous year. Thus, Freshful by eMAG sold approximately 700 tons of fruits and vegetables this year, 3 times more than in 2022.
On average, people allocate more than 15% of their monthly food spending budget to fruits and vegetables, so 1 in 5 products added to the basket in the Freshful by eMAG app is from this category. Customers also have an increased interest in eco products, being ordered especially by families with children, who pay more attention to eating style. This year, 25% of the fruit and vegetable sales were represented by those in the eco category, increasing compared to the previous year by 100%.
“We noticed people’s growing interest in local products, that’s why we set out to become the first online hypermarket of small local producers and introduced seasonal fruits and vegetables to the offer very early this year. For us, the taste of the products comes first in the selection of local products that we sell on the platform and of our partners. We are looking for vegetables that are grown in clean soil, from chemically untreated seeds, for which crop rotation and fertilization with compost made from vegetable remains are considered, which guarantee flavor and taste as in childhood”, said Andrei Popescu, General Manager Freshful by eMAG.
Freshful by eMAG customers ordered 300 tons of fruit and almost 400 tons of vegetables this year. Most frequently, people put exotic fruits, such as citrus fruits or bananas, in the shopping basket, and among the local ones, the most purchased were forest fruits. When it comes to vegetables, people ordered tomatoes, potatoes and peppers the most. On average, 8 out of 10 orders contain at least one fruit or vegetable, and the most common combination for the shopping basket in a single purchase is parsley, bananas and tomatoes.
