Ruxandra Lupsa, Eastern Europe HR Director, NXP Semiconductors: The switch to the Bologna system of university degree was critical
Wellbeing is a vast domain and can include mostly all our efforts. Companies nowadays are throwing benefits at employees assuming they will need those benefits. An example of a benefit which is extremely helpful for employees is the employee assistance program (EAP). Employees prefer to call the line and speak up and talk about their problems because they know that the company will not know.
HR is still perceived as an interface with the company, a department or a person who is going to convey any message that you would share to the company and that may hurt you. That’s what employees usually fear, stated Ruxandra Lupsa, Eastern Europe HR Director, NXP Semiconductors, at the latest edition of People Empowering Business Forum 2023“, organized by the Diplomat-Bucharest and Outsourcing Today.

The quality of education has decreased for a few years, but I see a comeback for the last maybe 5 years. One of the critical moments in the educational system in Romania was the switch to the Bologna system of university to have your degree. That was the moment when all the students started to enrol in master’s program and immediately after in PhD programs. The quality of education has improved gradually and in the last 5 years I’ve seen great students.
Related to DEI, where we also must add the B from “belonging” in the acronym, it seems that locally, we seem to have a certain challenge in deeply understanding what other regions or countries are facing. We enjoy a rather inclusive culture and approach in terms of diversity, even if we still have some areas where is it visible some sort of domestic prejudice. We are a nation defined by homogeneity, but lately, we got to know people from Asia, from different countries, regions and cultures that came to work in Romania. As a natural process, they will naturalize here, they will live here for many years, and this can only help to the process of understanding even better the terms of DEIB. Just as a reminder, besides the diversity, inclusion and belonging, the concept refers to equity, and not equality. The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality: Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means that everyone is getting what they need, according to their situation, context and needs.
