Energy Minister Burduja: “Public entities submitted over 700 applications for renewable energy projects through the Modernization Fund”
Over 700 applications for electricity production projects from renewable sources – financed through the Modernization Fund – were submitted by public entities on the first day after the call opening, announced Sebastian Burduja, the Minister of Energy. The value of all projects submitted up to this point is almost 1.8 billion RON, approximately 70 percent of the value of the allocated budget.
“Through this call, we put to the test a budget of 500 million euros from the Modernization Fund to support, for the first time, local public authorities that want to cover part of their electricity consumption by installing energy production systems from renewable sources.
The level of interest in the call launched this morning shows that local level public institutions also understood the importance of green energy. I am glad that we managed to find forms of financing for a safe energy transition for Romania. The fact that projects reaching 70% of the project budget were submitted from the first day demonstrates the necessity of these financings. This financial support offered by the Ministry of Energy will reduce public expenses at the level of administrative-territorial units, and citizens will have access to better and cheaper public services,” explained the Minister of Energy.
The financial support in the form of a grant, within the call for projects, is based on the principle “first come, first evaluated evaluated and contracted, in compliance with the conditions in the guide” and is granted for investments intended for the production of electricity from renewable wind energy sources, solar or hydro, contributing to the achievement of the objectives assumed by Romania within the National Integrated Energy and Climate Change Plan, to the objectives of the European Green Deal as a strategy for the sustainable growth of Europe and to combat climate change in accordance with the Union’s commitments to implement the Agreement from Paris and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Key Program 1: Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage and within the PNIESC.
