Retele Electrice Dobrogea invests over 67 million RON to improve energy infrastructure in Navodari
Retele Electrice Dobrogea (a company part of the PPC group, previously called E-Distribuţie Dobrogea), is modernizing the Navodari primary station and the medium-voltage power lines in the area, as part of two projects with a total value of 67 million RON.
The projects will be financed both from own funds and from European grants attracted through the Modernization Fund, and aim to increase the resilience of the network, considering future consumption needs. The energy installations currently serve around 27,500 customers.
“The modernization of the Navodari substation marks a significant moment in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the reliability, resilience and efficiency of the electrical infrastructure in the area. By investing in advanced technologies and sustainable practices, we aim to meet the changing needs of our customers and contribute to a clean and sustainable energy future in the face of increasingly frequent and intense climate challenges,” said Mihai Pește, General Manager of Retele Electrice companies.
The company has already started the modernization works at the 110/20 kV Navodari substation. The 20 million RON, self-funded project will involve the replacement and modernization of all equipment, including transformers, switchgear and control systems, to improve overall operational efficiency and reliability.
Retele Electrice Dobrogea will also integrate advanced monitoring and control systems, using smart grid technologies to enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and optimized energy distribution. The station was already integrated into the remote control system, which allows for remote maneuvers, reducing intervention times, and by implementing modernized equipment and systems, it will be better prepared to operate even in conditions of potential disturbances, including those generated of extreme weather phenomena such as storms and floods.
The works are expected to last approximately 24 months, with minimal disruption to electricity distribution services. Rețele Electrice Dobrogea assures customers and other interested parties of its firm commitment to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality and reliability throughout the project’s implementation.
The project to modernize the medium voltage power lines has a value of almost 48 million RON including VAT, of which approximately 31.5 million RON without VAT is financed by European grants. The contract with the Ministry of Energy for non-refundable financing through the Modernization Fund was signed in August last year. The Retele Electrice companies have launched a public procedure for awarding the contract covering most of the works, worth about 38.7 million RON without VAT. The deadline for submitting offers on the electronic public procurement platform is March 20.
