PENNY Romania begins work on the new warehouse in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County
PENNY Romania announces the start of work on the newest warehouse in the country, located in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County. With an investment of 35 million euros, this will be the fifth PENNY warehouse in Romania, after those in Ștefănestii de Jos, Turda, Bacău and Filiași. The works will be completed during 2025.
The new PENNY warehouse in Mihăilești will have a team of approximately 200 employees and will cover an area of 22,000 square meters on the ground, on a plot of 120,000 square meters.
The warehouse will have photovoltaic panels installed, and heating will be provided by heat recovery from the cold (depending on availability), but also by heat pumps from the industrial cold system, so that the new warehouse will achieve CO2 neutrality at the level of heating.
CO2 neutrality will also be achieved at the level of ambient cooling, for which no freon will be used, but only cold water generated by the industrial cold system.
“Romania is an important market for us, that’s why we have planned investments of over 1 billion euros until 2029, mainly by expanding the store network to a total of 619 PENNY stores and 6 logistics centers. The start of work on the fifth PENNY warehouse in the country is an important step in this direction. We strategically chose to build the new warehouse in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County, due to the potential for expansion and the existing road infrastructure, with the objective that, once operational, it will serve 70 stores by the end of 2025 and 100 stores by the end of 2027,” said Daniel Gross, CEO of PENNY Romania.
