Tiberiu Danetiu, Auchan: “We have invested over 60 million Euro to reduce CO2 emissions through new technologies in our stores”
“One of our goals is to be a sustainable economic actor. We are taking a number of actions and have a number of priorities at group level and at country level, which are contained in a 2030 climate plan, the main aim of which is to combat climate change, to be more effective in energy, to protect the environment.
We recently had a ceremony to inaugurate the photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of our stores. A very important project, through which we installed 27,000 photovoltaic panels with a power of almost 12.8 MW on the roofs of 28 stores.
These panels that cover our stores (16 at Auchan and 12 at Leroy Merlin) have a total area of 63,000 square meters, equivalent to 9 football fields. It helps us because we will inject green energy into our stores, it is a project carried out together with Helexia and Leroy Merlin,” Tiberiu Danetiu, Director Corporate Affairs & Retail Media, Auchan Retail Romania said during Green Energy Conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We have invested over 60 million Euro to reduce CO2 emissions through new technologies introduced in our stores. We installed refrigerated display cases with doors, which meant a 30-40% lower energy consumption. In addition, after the explosion of electricity prices, we made an additional optimization plan so as to reduce costs and energy consumption and have as little impact on the environment as possible.
We are very pleased that an initiative that we launched for the first time in retail, to collect used cooking oil and later transform it into biofuel, is enjoying success. We also have a fairly large impact in logistics operations and have carried out a project to optimize the routes of trucks that transport goods to customers, so that we consume as little fuel as possible.
In addition, we managed to have the first electric truck, approved by the public authorities in Bucharest, with which we transport goods in the city. It is a pilot initiative that we are testing and that we want to develop.
Auchan Renewable Energy is a company that we created last year and whose objective is to buy green energy for Auchan, to implement energy efficiency projects within our stores and to develop new projects regarding the production of green energy such as the one with the photovoltaic panels on the roofs of the stores.”
