Investing in the Future: EduAct Renovates Schoolyards and Kindergartens in Rural Areas
A modern and adapted learning environment is essential for children’s educational success. In 2022, EduAct began investing in schools at risk of dropout, both through educational programs and equipment.
EduAct programs are built on all three educational cycles: primary, secondary, and high school. All programs are implemented in educational units identified by the World Bank as having a risk of educational vulnerability, based on the evaluation of school results and dropout rates, in Călărași, Satu Mare, and Bucharest. Where intervention is necessary, programs are supplemented by school infrastructure. From 2022 to the present, EduAct has built a multifunctional center, an IT lab, and has begun the development of a schoolyard and playgrounds for two more kindergartens.
A tangible example: the school in Dorobanțu
With only two classrooms, the school in the village of Dorobanțu is located just 40 minutes from Bucharest. Here, in 2022, when EduAct intervened, children were studying in three shifts, and the activities supported by the NGO, in addition to the national curriculum, were a challenge. A year later, EduAct built a fully equipped multifunctional center to support children’s educational journey. The space became the first library, the first computer lab, a place for EduAct activities, and from spring, the children included in the program also benefit from a hot meal.
Here, in the spring, the development of the schoolyard also began, which, from a sloping terrain, was optimized by delimiting a sports field to current standards, green spaces, and a playground adapted for schoolchildren. Children who, until now, stood on the fence or could no longer go outside when it rained, due to the mud, returned this school year to a new space, arranged with the support of partner companies: Deichmann, Inditex, and Ayvens.
“It is an investment for now and for future generations. Being so close to Bucharest, these children have numerous professional opportunities if they also have an adequate educational path. An attractive school can be a source of motivation and determination for them, an extra reason not to drop out, as statistics show has happened with previous generations. We have taken on the mission to support each school in which we intervene for at least 8 years, in order to be able to have an impact. We support children through our programs and we want to see, by creating an optimal framework, that we have shaped destinies,” said Ioana Breazu, EduAct.
Education should not be a privilege. Education should not be a dream. But sometimes it is. The EduAct Association supports formal and non-formal education activities for students in educational units identified as being at risk of vulnerability.
Because educational programs cannot be fulfilled without support, a joint effort is needed to continue, year after year, investing in education. The schoolyard is not a dream. And neither should education be.
